## Canonical definition

The Age of Technological Generation is a media-historical phase in which the dominant operating logic of media moves beyond reproduction and editing toward probabilistic generation and recursive human–nonhuman interaction, so that not only expressive outcomes but the very process by which meaning is formed becomes technologically co-constituted.

## Reading note

Editorial note based on the canonical definition and the 2026 article.

Yongwook Lee’s Age of Technological Generation is a concept in media history and aesthetics. It concerns how expression, meaning, and possibilities emerge through human interaction with computational systems, including generative AI.

In this concept, “generation” means the production of expressions and possibilities. It does not name a demographic cohort such as Generation Z, or serve as a general synonym for the Information Age or Digital Age.

Reproduction, editing, and generation can coexist. The distinction concerns shifts in dominant media operations: reproducing objects, arranging existing materials, and generating possibilities.
